Tourist Destination Strategy

Council adopted the Tourist Destination Strategy (2024 - 2029) at its Ordinary Meeting on Tuesday 27 August 2024. This Strategy sets out our strategic priorities and direction for marketing Rockingham to tourists.

The key objectives aim to support and develop business and product growth within Rockingham to enhance the overall tourism offering, improve visitor experiences and continue to build Rockingham’s reputation as a must-visit coastal destination in Western Australia. The Strategy identifies and prioritises four key strategic elements to actively support and grow tourism in Rockingham:

  1. Destination and tourism product development
  2. Destination marketing
  3. Visitor servicing
  4. Event attraction and activation

Rediscover Rockingham – the City’s tourism brand

Our tourism marketing brand, Rediscover Rockingham, was launched in 2019 and aims to encourage everyone – locals and visitors alike – to Rediscover Rockingham.

This brand aligns with the City’s corporate brand while having the ability to be recognised as a stand-alone destination brand and tag line for the entire Rockingham region, and resonates among intrastate visitors as an invitation to return and Rediscover Rockingham.

Rockingham businesses are encouraged to adopt the Rediscover Rockingham brand within their own marketing and promotional activities. Details and tips regarding how this can be achieved are outlined in the following Industry Toolkit.

Tourism Brand Redevelopment Project

In line with the Tourist Destination Strategy, the City has commenced development of a new tourism brand with the intent to broaden target markets to interstate and international visitors.

Following a research and consultation period involving desktop research, an online survey and key stakeholder workshops, a new brand strategy is currently being developed alongside a new creative direction for Rockingham's destination marketing moving forward.

Updates on this project will continue to be provided over the coming months via our Tourism Development eNewsletter and via this website page.

Industry Toolkit

We've created a dedicated tourism industry toolkit to assist local operators in:

  • Leveraging the Rediscover Rockingham destination marketing brand
  • Navigating the wider WA tourism network and its associated opportunities, and
  • Sharing high quality images to promote Rockingham as a must visit destination in the Perth region.

This digital toolkit will continue to be built upon over time to provide a one stop shop of useful resources for operators, and to encourage greater collaboration between the City and our valued local tourism industry.

Meet our Mobile Visitor Centre

The Rediscover Rockingham Mobile Visitor Centre service is an exciting City-owned initiative that launched in February 2025, designed to be flexible and adaptive in providing helpful information and resources directly to visitors while they are out and about in our destination.

The service operates Thursday - Sunday, between September and May, and frequents tourism hotspots including the Rockingham Foreshore, Point Peron, and events in and out of the region.

Aiming to compliment the services offered by the local brick and mortar Visitor Centres, the Mobile Visitor Centre has received great engagement so far, from both locals and tourists keen to learn more about Rockingham's tourism offering.
