Our Youth Employment Program (YEP) offers a three-year paid traineeship at the City for young people aged between 16 and 24 years. The program was launched in 2022 with our first cohort of trainees and it will again be offered in 2023. The program is run in conjunction with our partners, Nudge, a for-purpose charity organisation. The program specialises in traineeships and apprenticeships, to allow young people to access paid work and training opportunities that will provide on-the-job experience and become a stepping stone towards further education and formal employment, either with the City or elsewhere.
This investment in our community provides participants with access to paid employment and training opportunities (trade and tertiary) while building on the job experience in their chosen area.
Applications for our second cohort of YEP trainees are now open. Opportunities will be offered in civil construction, turf management, horticulture, bushfire mitigation, engineering, electrical and playground asset inspectors. Participants will benefit from expert mentoring by Nudge and on-the-job support from our supervisors.
