Concessions

Concessions on rates

If you are a pensioner or senior, you may be able to apply for a rebate for your Council rates and Emergency Services Levy. The reverse of your rates notice contains full details of the rebates available.

Pensioners

Pension Card holders who own and reside in their property on 1 July of the rating year are entitled to claim a rebate of up to 50 per cent of the current year’s rates, or may defer payment of those rates. The State Government has capped the rebate at $750 on rates for the 2023/2024 financial year.

Seniors

Seniors Card holders who own and reside in their property on 1 July of the rating year are entitled to claim a rebate of up to 25 per cent of the current year’s rates. The State Government has limited this rebate to a maximum amount of $100 for the 2023/2024 financial year. The deferment option is not available to Senior Card holders.

Partial concessions are also available to pensioners and seniors who own and occupy their property at 1 July and became eligible during the financial year. The partial concession will apply from the date your application is made.

To register your entitlement for a rebate you may apply online with the Water Corporation or call on 1300 659 951. The Water Corporation offers rebates for pensioners and seniors on its water rates and conducts a common rebate registration service on behalf of local government for eligible pensioners and seniors.

Please note that all other charges are not subject to a concession.

The City does not administer the laws regarding pensioner concessions – they are determined by the State Government. If you wish to comment on the capping of the pensioner rebates you will need to contact your local member of parliament.
