Fire Danger Rating

Baldivis fire truck in bushland.

Fire Danger Ratings describe the potential level of danger should a bushfire start. They are important because they provide people with information so that they can take action to protect themselves and others from the potentially dangerous impacts of bushfires. If you are in a bushfire risk area you need to stay informed and know what the Fire Danger Rating is for your area each day.

On 1 September 2022 the Australian Fire Danger Rating System (AFDRS) was introduced across Australia. This means that wherever people are in Australia, they will see and access consistent fire danger advice.

Graphic showing the four new ratings in ascending order..The new system has been reduced to four ratings:

  • Moderate: Plan and prepare
  • High: Be ready to act
  • Extreme: Take action now to protect life and property
  • Catastrophic: For your survival, leave bushfire risk areas

Note: Rockingham is listed under the Swan Coastal District
