Current fire activity

  • A Total Fire Ban has been declared for the City of Rockingham for Monday 19 February 2024.

A TFB is declared on days when fires are likely to threaten lives and property due to predicted extreme fire weather or when there are already widespread fires and firefighting resources are stretched.

At these times you must not:

    • light, maintain or use a fire in the open air
    • carry out any activity that could start a fire

    This includes:

    • Open fires for the purpose of cooking, camping or outdoor entertainment are not allowed including fire pits and bonfires.
    • Hot work such as metal work, grinding, welding, gas cutting is not allowed in the open air except for business and industry if regulatory conditions are met.
    • Off-road activity using a four-wheel drive, quad bike, motorcycle, bobcat or similar vehicle, except for agricultural purposes or by business and industry if regulatory conditions are met.

You could be fined up to $25,000 or jailed for 12 months or both if you breach a Total Fire Ban.

Keep up to date on all declared Total Fire Bans by visiting Emergency WA.

For full information on what you can and cannot do on Total Fire Ban days, visit Department of Fire and Emergency Services.

  • There are currently no planned hazard reduction burns for the City of Rockingham.

    Information on planned burns

Hazard reduction burn. The City is responsible for the mitigation of bushfire risk on City-owned and managed land. Planned burning is used to achieve asset protection and biodiversity. Prescribed fires help reduce the catastrophic damage of wildfire on our lands and surrounding communities by safely reducing excessive amounts of brush, shrubs and trees.

Planned burning can only be done during favourable weather conditions and at this stage it is not possible to determine the exact dates of these planned burns. Information regarding the exact dates and time will be made available here and on the City's Facebook page 48 hours prior to a planned burn.

During the planned burn we recommend that you close windows and doors, keep laundry inside, do not operate air-conditioning units and avoid the location of the prescribed burn site.

People with asthma, pre-existing respiratory or other conditions exacerbated by smoke should take precautions in line with their medical advice and/or visit the Department of Health website for more information.

Should this be of concern to you or you require more detailed information, please contact us on 9528 0333 or email at customer@rockingham.wa.gov.au.

  • harvest vehicleA Harvest and Vehicle Movement Ban (HVMB) is imposed to restrict activities that are likely to cause a bushfire or contribute to the spread of a bushfire when the expected weather conditions indicate that if a wildfire was to start, it would be dangerous, destructive and difficult to stop once started.

A Harvest and Vehicle Movement Ban will be declared by the City's Chief Bushfire Control Officer usually in the late afternoon on the day before. We will publish this information on our website and Facebook.

Activities NOT PERMITTED during a Harvest and Vehicle Movement Ban:

    • harvesting operations
    • any “hot works” (e.g. welding, grinding, cutting, heating, lawn mowers, hedge trimmers, combustible engines etc.) in the “open air” are not permitted.
    • use or operation of any engine, vehicle, plant, equipment or machinery in the area likely to cause a bushfire or contribute to the spread of a bushfire.

The responsibility remains on the individual to ensure that any activity undertaken is not likely to start a fire and that a Harvest and Vehicle Movement Ban is currently not in place in their local government area.
