2024 Castaways Sculpture Awards Entries Now Open

Date11 March 2024

Entries are now open for the City of Rockingham’s 2024 Castaways Sculpture Awards, including the Main Exhibition, Maquette and Small Sculpture Exhibition, and Schools Exhibition.

Castaways is the City’s signature arts and culture event and celebrates environmental awareness through artistic innovation.

City of Rockingham Mayor Deb Hamblin announced a total prize pool this year of $27,250 (non-acquisitive), including a $10,000 prize for the Major Award.

“Castaways is a popular and high profile event which provides Western Australian artists, and local primary and secondary schools, an opportunity to develop and showcase their skills,” Mayor Hamblin said.

All works must consist of 65% recycled materials. To be eligible for the major $10,000 award works must comprise 30% visible aluminium.

Judges will assess works based on originality, outstanding technical skill and concepts, and whether the works are aesthetically engaging and represent excellence in recycled sculpture.

“We always get some visually stunning and thought provoking pieces, so this year we are really looking forward to seeing what we get submitted for the Main Exhibition and Schools Exhibition that will be displayed on the Rockingham Foreshore, and for the Maquette and Small Sculpture Exhibition at the Rockingham Arts Centre,” Mayor Hamblin said.

Entries for Castaways 2024 close at 4pm Friday 17 May. The exhibition will run from Saturday 26 October until Sunday 3 November.

Entrants can register for free webinars on how to enter. A recording of the sessions will also be available online following the sessions.
