Proposed Line Marking on Safety Bay Road

Project summary

As part of our commitment to increasing road safety, and our ongoing road resurfacing efforts within our City, we are upgrading the line markings and installing a painted median island on Safety Bay Road between June Road and Waimea Road in Safety Bay.

The painted median island is a modern engineering solution designed to reduce head-on and cross-over-the-centreline collisions on undivided roads. It increases the separation between vehicles travelling in opposite directions and alerts drivers who deviate from their lane. In short, the median will create a buffer zone for drivers, providing them with time to make corrective actions before encroaching into opposing traffic. The modification will not impact existing cycling lanes, parking or pedestrian facilities in the area.
