Due to corrosion, we will be removing and replacing the steel piles at Point Peron's floating boat jetties.
Thanks to funding provided by the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Infrastructure (LRCI) program, from 1May 2024 works are planned to start for the removal and replacement of the steel piles that support the northern and southern floating boat jetties at Point Peron. The existing steel piles are corroded and will be replaced with sealed high-density poly ethylene-sleeved steel piles which will help to reduce the corrosive effects of the sea water. The new piles will be longer than the existing piles to provide deeper embedment within the sea bed.
The replacement work is expected to take about one month for each jetty, and will be done consecutively so that half the jetties and ramp lanes will remain open at all times.
