Infrastructure Projects Construction

Project summary

Four intersections along Willmott Drive in Cooloongup and Waikiki are planned to be upgraded to roundabouts.

As part of the City’s Road Safety Management Plan, several intersections along Willmott Drive in Cooloongup and Waikiki are planned to be upgraded. This stretch of road has a history of crashes, and the planned changes aim to make the area safer for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists, while improving access and traffic flow for the local community.

Roundabouts will be installed at the following intersections on Willmott Drive:

  • Breaden Drive
  • Grange Drive
  • Goongarrie Drive
  • Gascoyne Way

Scope of works

  • Road layout modifications including roundabout construction
  • Drainage upgrades
  • Footpath modifications
  • Irrigation and landscaping

Traffic management details

To facilitate these works safely, temporary traffic management measures will be in place including:

  • Reduced speed limits through work zones
  • Traffic diversions and detours
  • Intermittent road closures
  • Traffic controller assistance where required

Motorists should expect delays and allow additional travel time when travelling through the area.

We appreciate the community's patience and cooperation while these important upgrades are completed.

Detour information

Detour and staging information will be updated to this web page upon Traffic Management Plan approval.

Roundabout design

In 2022, the City undertook community consultation on the planned upgrades along Willmott Drive. Feedback received during this consultation has been considered and incorporated into the final designs where appropriate.

An example of the planned roundabout treatment is shown below.

The public consultation plans (00121‑PC1‑B to 00121‑PC5‑B) are available to view below. These plans show the locations of the planned roundabouts and how they integrate with the existing road layout and surrounding area. The designs follow road safety best practice and take into account existing road conditions, surrounding infrastructure and utility services.
