The City of Rockingham has been recognised at the Kookaburra WA Community Cricket Awards, winning Community Facility Project of the Year for the redevelopment of Stan Twight Reserve.

The Community Facility Project award recognises clubs, organisations or local governments that deliver cricket facilities aligned with Australian Cricket's strategic goals, incorporating sustainable design and strong, effective partnerships.

Mayor Lorna Buchan said the award recognised the City's ongoing commitment to investing in high quality community sport facilities.

We are incredibly proud to see the Stan Twight Redevelopment acknowledged at the state level. This project has delivered a first class facility that is already making a real difference for local clubs, volunteers and families. Seeing more women, girls and young people accessing safe, inclusive and welcoming sporting spaces is an excellent outcome, and it's wonderful to see the community already reaping the benefits.

Following a comprehensive master planning process, the redevelopment included new clubroom and changeroom facilities, reconfigured site layout and upgraded playing surfaces. Completed in November 2025, Stan Twight Reserve plays a central role in Rockingham's cricket pathway, supporting the Shoalwater Bay Cricket Club, Peel Cricket Association and hosting major fixtures such as Country Week. The upgrade has improved gender equity, and increased scheduling capacity for junior, female and senior competitions.

President of the Shoalwater Bay Cricket Club, Justin Kennedy, said the City's investment has been a game changer for the club.

"Having the modern clubroom, inclusive changerooms and high quality playing surfaces has given us an incredible ability to attract, retain and grow the game in our local community, particularly for women and girls. Hosting the entire A Section of Female Country Week at our ground was a real highlight. The upgrades have helped us create an environment where all members feel welcome, supported and excited to play. It's a huge boost for our club and the future of cricket in our community."

The City's investment has delivered a facility that supports participation from junior to senior levels, encourages community involvement and strengthens long term pathways across cricket and football, positioning Stan Twight Reserve as one of Rockingham's most important community sporting assets.
