The City of Rockingham has recognised its leading athletes, volunteers and sporting organisations at the 2026 Sports Star Awards, held at the Gary Holland Community Centre on 16 September.

The annual awards celebrate the outstanding achievements of local sportspeople, volunteers and clubs, and acknowledge the important role sport plays in creating a healthy, active and connected community.

Mayor Lorna Buchan congratulated all finalists and winners on their success.

"Our sporting community continues to achieve remarkable results at local, state, national and international levels, and these awards provide an opportunity to recognise the dedication, talent and hard work behind those achievements," Mayor Buchan said.

"We are also incredibly fortunate to have volunteers, coaches and administrators who give their time to support local sport and create opportunities for others to participate and succeed."

Major winners on the night included Rockingham PCYC Gymnastics, which was named Club of the Year, and Safety Bay Tennis Club, which received the Club Governance Award. Les Thomas was honoured with the John Brown Lifetime Achievement Memorial Award for his longstanding contribution to sport in the Rockingham community.

The City thanks long-standing sponsor The Sound Telegraph for its ongoing support of the Sports Star Awards.
