Youth Services

City of Rockingham

We are pleased to advise that work has started on a new venue for young people. The Rockingham Youth Centre is expected to open in March 2021.

Located on MacKinnon Street in Rockingham, the centre will give young people aged 12-24 a place to connect and learn new skills. City Youth Workers and Youth Development Officers will be based at the centre and host forums, skill development sessions and workshops for young people. The centre will provide young people with opportunities in areas that include entrepreneurship, social innovation, life skills, job readiness and leadership skills. 

Youth Centre team

Our Youth Centre team is committed to assisting the social, emotional, psychological and physical development of young people aged 12-24 years by providing a professional youth-friendly service addressing the needs of young people. Youth Workers are available for information, support, referral and advocacy, individual case management, groups and programs. Community Development Officers are available for early intervention and prevention workshops, information sessions and forums and community events in local education and community settings for young people aged 10-24.

Youth Workers

Our Youth Workers offer support, advocacy, referral, information and case management for 12-24 year olds living in Rockingham. They provide a duty system at local secondary schools where young people can access a Youth Worker on a regular basis. Contact Student Services at individual high schools for an appointment during school hours. For those young people not able to access a Youth Worker while at school, our Youth Workers are also available at the City's Administration Building, Civic Boulevard, Rockingham from Monday to Friday, 2pm to 5pm.

Youth Workers can assist with:

  • family conflict
  • mental health
  • financial issues
  • health
  • general health
  • legal issues
  • accommodation and homelessness
  • substance use and alcohol issues
  • employment and training
  • education
  • recreation.

Our Youth Workers can also provide programs and services tailored to the needs of young people. These may be in education settings or within the community.

Community Development Officers

The Community Development Officers provide young people aged 10-24 years and their families with early intervention and prevention workshops, information sessions, activities, programs and community events in local settings.

Workshops and information sessions cover a variety of topics including:

  • mental health
  • suicide prevention
  • resilience
  • sexual health
  • drug and alcohol use
  • transition to high school
  • youth life skills
  • education and employment.
