Tamworth Hill Swamp Revegetation
The WA Limestone Group of Companies (WAL) has been extracting sand and limestone from the City’s Millar Road Landfill Facility site since the 1980s under various agreements with the City. In November 2005 WAL entered into an agreement with the City to remove sand and limestone from Millar Road, which would facilitate expansion of the landfill facility.
In May 2013, WAL was granted conditional approval under EPBC 2010/5649 to clear 22 hectares of native vegetation to extract sand and limestone from Lot 2170, Millar Road, Baldivis. The approval included the condition that revegetation is undertaken to establish 12ha of black cockatoo habitat at the Tamworth Hill Swamp Reserve. The Tamworth Hill Swamp Reserve Revegetation Plan was prepared by the City in conjunction with WAL to guide revegetation works at the reserve.
Revegetation works began in 2015 and are expected to be completed by 2024.
