Deputy Mayor Rob Schmidt accepted the award on behalf of the City.
Mayor Lorna Buchan said the recognition highlighted the success of a project shaped by strong partnerships between the City and local sporting clubs.
"Stan Twight Reserve is now one of the premier community sporting facilities in our region and this award is additional recognition of the vision, collaboration and investment that made it possible," Mayor Buchan said.
Home to the Safety Bay Stingers Football Club, Rockingham Districts Masters Football Club, and the Shoalwater Bay Cricket Club, the redevelopment has delivered modern, inclusive facilities including gender-inclusive changerooms, upgraded amenities, additional parking and AFL competition-standard lighting.
The City secured $1 million in State Government funding for the project, along with contributions from WA Football and Cricket Australia, and worked closely with all three clubs throughout planning, design and construction.
Steven Rose, Facilities & Government Relations Manager at WA Football, said the project was an outstanding example of the award’s key pillars of Sustainability, Partnerships and Investment.
“Stan Twight Reserve demonstrates what can be achieved when local government and community clubs work together to deliver inclusive, accessible and fit-for-purpose football facilities,” Rose said.
The award follows further success for the redevelopment earlier this year, when Stan Twight Reserve won both the state and national Community Facility Project of the Year awards through WA Cricket and Cricket Australia.
The upgraded facilities are already supporting growth in female, junior and senior participation and will serve the Rockingham community for many years to come.
