The City of Rockingham is joining multiple Western Australian local governments taking part in the 2026 WA Tree Festival, a month‑long program running from 11 April to 10 May 2026 and sponsored by the Government of Western Australia with support from WALGA and Perth NRM.

'Tree Fest' celebrates the importance of tree canopy cover and the benefits trees bring to creating cooler, healthier and more vibrant neighbourhoods.

Mayor Lorna Buchan said the Festival provided a welcome opportunity for the community to connect with Rockingham’s natural environment.

“Trees shape our neighbourhoods, they support local wildlife, cool our streets and enhance our overall wellbeing.” Mayor Buchan said.

The WA Tree Festival is a great opportunity for our community to come together, enjoy our natural environment and learn how we can all contribute to a thriving urban forest.

The City’s 2026 program offers a relaxed and engaging mix of activities designed to help residents learn, unwind and enjoy nature, these include:

  • Right Tree, Right Place for tips on choosing and planting the best tree for your home
  • Yoga in the Park
  • Forest Bathing and Walk-and-Talk sessions for slow, mindful time in nature
  • Creating Black Cockatoo Friendly Suburbs with Dr Christine Groom, and
  • Native Plants Giveaway 2026

The festival supports the City’s long‑term environmental goals, outlined in the Strategic Community Plan 2023–2033 that identifies the natural environment as a key aspiration for Rockingham as “a place of natural beauty where the environment is respected”.

It also aligns with the Urban Forest Strategy 2025–2030, adopted in December 2025 which outlines a comprehensive approach to protecting existing trees, expanding canopy cover, improving tree management over time, and strengthening community involvement in urban greening initiatives.
