Social media usage guidelines

The City of Rockingham’s social media channels (Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube) aim to inform, educate, engage and inspire residents, visitors and businesses within our local government area. Please remember that the channels are public forums. They are not the place for private conversations, nor for the tone of voice or language sometimes used in private conversations. Social media is a very public place where many people of all ages from all walks of life, and with different social and cultural values, read and contribute to our discussions.

Good manners, polite interactions and respectful comments are expected from all our social media followers friends, even when disagreeing or expressing concerns. Comments which use offensive language, demean other people including City employees and Council Members, derail conversations with off-topic remarks or references to unrelated posts or that bring the City’s or Council’s reputation into disrepute will be hidden or deleted at the absolute discretion of City of Rockingham, and the people posting them may be permanently banned from the City’s channels. Community comments may also be turned off on some posts at the discretion of the City of Rockingham.

The City of Rockingham does not accept responsibility for community comments – they are not representative of the opinions of the City of Rockingham, nor do we make any warranty to their accuracy.

It’s really easy to be respectful, so please read through our guidelines, and help keep this part of the internet a polite, welcoming, and useful place for everyone.
