As part of the City's coastal management program, sand renourishment works will be undertaken at Mersey Point to repair erosion caused by winter storms. The works will include transporting clean screened sand from Point Peron, reinstating and profiling the beach and dunes, carrying out excavation and backfilling, and using a silt curtain to manage sediment.
Works will occur at:
- the western end of the seawall
- the seabed at the base of the seawall
- the eastern end of the seawall through to Carlisle Street Boat Ramp.
Works are scheduled to begin on Monday, 12 October 2026, between 7am to 4pm, Monday to Friday only. We anticipate this will take approximately six weeks to complete, subject to weather conditions, tide and sea conditions.
During the works, the beach access road, pathway and beaches south of the Mersey Point Jetty to the seawall will be closed to the public. Traffic management will be in place on Arcadia Drive and Safety Bay Road.
