The City is proposing an upgrade to Lakemba Reserve with the aim of enhancing the reserve’s functionality, accessibility, and overall appeal.
The proposed works will include:
- Replacing an upgraded basketball court
- constructing a resting node with a shelter and a BBQ
- constructing a footpath with park benches to improve accessibility and connectivity
- introducing a flying fox equipment to support imaginative and active play.
Through these targeted improvements, the upgrade seeks to create a more welcoming, resilient, and engaging environment that better supports recreation and meets the needs of the local community.

Pending consultation outcomes, works are expected to begin in the 2026/2027 financial year.
This is part of the City’s Parks Improvement Plan to upgrade and enhance reserves within the City of Rockingham.
The surface of the basketball court is currently in poor condition and due for a renewal. As part of this project, it presented an opportunity to upgrade the court to help create a more cohesive and functional activity node within the reserve.
The mulch that will be installed are specific soft fall mulch, designed for playgrounds. Soft fall mulch was chosen to minimise the frequency of maintenance and will comply with the Australian Standard AS 4422:2022 – Playground Surfacing.
There will be temporary fencing installed with no public access to part of the park while the works are underway.
Works are expected to occur in the 2026/2027 financial year.
