This project will help reduce standing water in the reserve's drainage basins, while improving the appearance, functionality and overall enjoyment of the area for park users at Koorana Reserve.

Why are these works needed?
Koorana Reserve's sporting facilities were upgraded in 2021, including the construction of a new car park and two drainage basins designed to manage stormwater across the area.
Since then, water has continued to collect in the drainage basins throughout the year, creating several issues, including:
- Standing water remaining in the basins for extended periods
- Mosquito breeding and algae growth
- Difficulties retrieving footballs and cricket balls that enter the basins
- Rubbish, including shopping trolleys, accumulating in the basins and affecting the appearance of the reserve
In 2023, fencing was installed around the basins to help address some of these issues but the planned drainage upgrades will provide a longer-term solution.
What works will be undertaken?
The City will:
- Raise base levels within the drainage basins to reduce standing water
- Upgrade drainage infrastructure to improve stormwater movement
- Plant vegetation throughout the basins to improve stability, drainage performance and appearance
Construction impacts
During construction, there may be minor disruptions to parking and access within Koorana Reserve.
The City will provide advance notice of construction dates and any temporary changes to access arrangements.
