Overview

The Rockingham Foreshore Revitalisation was completed in August 2019. Stage one comprises three main areas:

  • Railway Terrace, a pedestrian friendly shopping and eat street
  • Beach Plaza, a new civic heart for Rockingham with a range of recreational, cultural and heritage attractions; and
  • The Boardwalk, featuring timber terraces and some ‘young- at-heart’ attractions connecting to the beach.

All three main areas have welcomed improved facilities for cyclists, along with both CCTV and lighting upgrades. In addition, a new accessible ‘Lookout’ and ‘Beach Bowl’ have been created, giving all visitors the chance to take greater advantage of the foreshore’s north-facing beach and expansive parklands which can be transformed into a space for concerts and events.

The project has won several awards including:

  • Institute of Public Works Engineering Australasia (IPWEA) WA Best Public Works Project greater than $5m (metro area)

  • IPWEA WA G.K Watters Local Government Engineering Excellence Award

  • Parks and Leisure Australia (PLA) WA Community Facility of The Year

  • PLA WA Commendation - Healthy Active by Design

  • PLA Community Facility of The Year (national)

  • Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA) WA Award for Excellence - urban renewal

  • Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA) WA Landscape Architecture Award of Excellence - tourism

Beach Plaza

The Beach Plaza is the new civic heart for Rockingham which includes a range of recreational and cultural attractions.

It is a new flexible event space located in the heart of Rockingham that can accommodate up to 700 people. The space has been designed to include lighting and power so that it can host a range of programmed events throughout the year including craft markets, car rallies, farmers' markets, concerts, movies, Christmas carols and buskers.

The new trees will provide shaded areas for alfresco dining outside the restaurants. The interactive lighting displays will create a fun and lively environment by night, and by day the colourful modular furniture and umbrellas will provide a shaded environment to relax.

Park Plaza

The Park Plaza offers a colourful meeting place with plenty of umbrellas and natural shade, and with the addition of ‘after dark’ stencil lighting, this area has been transformed into a fun and lively place offering a unique experience for visitors.
