Major annual events

Find out all you need to know about our upcoming major annual events and local community events - there's lots to see and do in Rockingham, where the coast comes to life. Our major annual events include the Christmas Festival and our New Year’s Eve and Australia Day celebrations. Be sure to check out the What's On events calendar to see other events happening around the City.


Christmas Festival Christmas Festival lights

The City's Christmas Festival was held on Saturday 5 December 2020. The event featured stage performances, roaming Christmas characters, food vans and more.

There was a variety of entertainment including choirs singing Christmas classics, Boorloo Indigenous Dance Group, and new talent from our Breakthrough Music Competition. Children enjoyed free craft activities and posted a letter to the north pole.

New Year's Eve Celebration

The 2020 New Year's Eve Celebration did not go ahead due to the State Government’s October announcement regarding the deferral of Phase Five of the COVID-19 Roadmap.

Australia Day Australia Day

The City's Australia Day event was held on Tuesday 26 January 2021 at the Rockingham Foreshore.

The event featured live music by The Godlemans, Intangible Duo and 2020 Breakthrough Music Competition finalists, free children's craft activities including terracotta pot painting, pop stick wind chimes and dot painting with Djurandi Dreaming, roaming performers and stilt walkers, and food trucks. Fireworks were not part of the 2021 event.

Symphony on the Green Symphony on the Green 2021

Symphony on the Green was held on Saturday 20 February at the Village Green; the fifth year the City has hosted Perth Symphony Orchestra.

Concertgoers were able to enjoy a variety of film tunes, classic anthems and iconic orchestral pieces throughout the night, while children also had the opportunity to join in a fun sing-along pre-show prior to the main event.

International Food Festival International Food Festival 2021

International Food Festival was held on Friday 19 March at the Village Green. The event was jam-packed with lots of fun things to do and eat.

The stage program featured performances by Boorloo, Subi Japanese Dance, Manawa mai Tawhiti and Kavanagh Studio of Irish Dance, as well as a drum-off between Taiko Do and Akwaaba African Drumming. There was also a variety of roaming entertainment, market stalls and children's activities.

Performance in the Park - Wizard of Oz Wizard of Oz characters on stage

Performance in the Park - Wizard of Oz was held on Saturday 27 March. Thousands of people brought their picnic blankets and chairs down to the Village Green for an enchanted theatre performance of The Wizard of Oz.

Attendees enjoyed free, family-friendly entertainment from 5.30pm, with roving Disney characters and pre-show stage performance, before the Wizard of Oz performance at 6.30pm. Following the performance, there was photo opportunities with all the characters.
