New Council Officially Sworn In

"I am deeply honoured and humbled to be elected as Mayor, and grateful for the trust our community has placed in me. I look forward to working with our new Council, staff and community members to ensure our City continues to thrive,” City of Rockingham Mayor Lorna Buchan said.

Having served as the City’s Deputy Mayor for the past two years, and as a Councillor for the Comet Bay Ward since 2019, Mayor Buchan brings experience and continuity to the role.

The election also saw six Councillor positions filled across the City’s three wards.

• Dylan Mbano was elected in Baldivis Ward.
• In Rockingham/Safety Bay Ward, Ryan Robertson was elected for the first time and sitting Councillors Leigh Liley and Dawn Jecks were returned.
• In Comet Bay Ward, sitting Councillor Robert Schmidt was returned, and David Rudman was elected for a two-year term due to the vacancy created by Mayor Buchan’s transition to Mayor.

I want to pay tribute to outgoing Mayor Deb Hamblin for her 20 years of service to the City of Rockingham. Her legacy as both the City’s first popularly elected Mayor and first female Mayor is extraordinary and deserves recognition and respect.

Mayor Buchan also thanked outgoing Councillors Caroline Hume and Brett Wormall for their contributions to the City.

A Special Council Meeting will be held on Tuesday, 28 October to elect the Deputy Mayor and members of the City’s committees, groups and panels.
