A Word from the
Hello, and welcome to the summer edition of the City Chronicle.
It’s been a busy few months around our community, with work continuing on the Baldivis District Sporting Complex and the
new Rockingham Youth Centre, a new dog park being developed in Waikiki, and the delivery of a new skate park
in Cooloongup.
I am delighted to see that our revitalised Rockingham Beach foreshore has won a national award (details on p3). We now
have a truly iconic beachside location that is being enjoyed by residents and visitors alike, and will continue to provide the
ideal space for a wide variety of community events for many years to come.
Speaking of events, we would usually be gearing up for our New Year’s Eve celebration at the foreshore around about
now, planning all the details for a night of great family-friendly live entertainment and two spectacular fireworks shows.
Unfortunately, the health requirements which were in place at the time the arrangements needed to be finalised made it
impractical to continue planning for the event. We won’t be kicking 2021 off the way we usually do. So, whatever you
choose to do to ring in the New Year, please enjoy yourself and stay safe.
We are still planning to host our Australia Day event at Churchill Park on January 26, and we are also
still committed to hosting a range of other events over the summer in line with COVID-19 safety
requirements. But please remember to check our Facebook page or website for the latest event
information closer to the date, because as we all know by now, COVID can change the best laid
plans very quickly.
It has been a long and challenging year. Thank you for your contribution to getting our
community through it by being patient and understanding. On behalf of all my fellow
Councillors I hope that the festive season is an enjoyable time for you and yours, and
that your summer includes some rest, relaxation and at least a few lazy days at our
spectacular beaches.
City of Rockingham Mayor,
Barry Sammels
