Bight Reefs Reserve Renaming

About

Singleton Residents Association has submitted an application to rename Bight Reefs Reserve, Singleton to ‘Mather Park’, in honour of the late Mr and Mrs Jack and Edna Mather.

Mr and Mrs Mather were long-time residents of Singleton and heavily involved in the local community. The Singleton Resident’s Association letter can be viewed below.

At its Ordinary Council Meeting held on 23 April 2024, Council supported public consultation on the proposed renaming of Bight Reefs Reserve, Singleton R26470 to 'Mather Park'. Once feedback has been received and considered, Council will decide whether to support the renaming and will forward the application to the Geographical Names Committee for their consideration.

The Geographical Names Committee will then make a recommendation to the Minister of Lands. Any application to name a park or reserve needs to demonstrate community support and endorsement by the local government.
