The 4.5 km ‘Gateway to Rockingham’ (Mundijong Road Extension Project) was officially launched on Friday 22 March, with appointed Tenderer TRACC Civil commencing works in March.
City of Rockingham Mayor, Barry Sammels said the new road marks an exciting turning point in the City’s history: “A direct road into Rockingham from the Kwinana Freeway represents many exciting opportunities for this region.
“Garden Island and the Kwinana Industrial strip will be more accessible to commuters, and transit times to Rockingham from Perth city will be reduced.
“A significant benefit to existing residents will see freight vehicles diverted onto this road and away from residential areas.
“This project has been more than a decade in the making and this road entry into the region has been needed for a long time.
“The $17.8 million project will take just over a year to complete and would not have been possible without the generous support of both the Federal Government, which provided $6.7 million worth of support for the project, and the State Government, which supported the acquisition of land process through the WA Planning Commission at a cost of $10.3 million.”
Project was completed in August 2014.
