Proposed Alfresco Dining Policy and Guidelines

Proposal

The City's current Outdoor Eating Area Policy has been reviewed and some minor improvement areas have been identified.  It has been determined to repeal this policy and replace it with a new Alfresco Dining Policy and supporting Alfresco Dining Guidelines.

The main changes include:

  • Increased flexibility in where the pedestrian clearway is in certain locations.  This may mean there is an opportunity for the alfresco dining area to be moved directly next to the premises, to take advantage of existing shade from the building.  The main concern with the pedestrian clearway is that pedestrians can safely move through alfresco areas in a straight line, so the pedestrian clearway location will be dependent on other premises nearby and any street furniture
  • The inclusion of parklets and the Foreshore Boardwalk area.
  • Minor changes to reflect current practices, such as cleaning.
