Fire Control Notice - Extended Compliance Period

About

Rural and special rural property owners were notified in August 2024 of the changed compliance dates to prepare for this bushfire season.

The Fire Control Notice sets out the expectations for property owners to complete their bushfire mitigations, including firebreaks, within the specified compliance period.

We're seeking feedback on the trial (1 November 2024 - 31 May 2025) compliance period to inform future bushfire preparedness planning.

The compliance period was extended by four weeks from the previous year’s compliance period (1 December 2023 – 31 May 2024), to reduce bushfire risk and ensure owners commence preparedness activities early. Share your thoughts on these changes below.

Results from your feedback will inform the timelines for the Fire Control Notice Period in 2025.

What Happens Next?

In accordance with the FCN, all bushfire mitigation on properties within the City of Rockingham will need to be completed by 1 November 2024 (instead of 1 December 2024).

Will the trial period be enforced?

As this is a trial, for the month of November a cautionary approach will be taken for any non-compliance, however from 1 December, enforcement action will be taken.
