Rockingham Recovery: Seniors and people with disability

The City of Rockingham COVID-19 Local Recovery Coordination Group (LRCG) is continuing to support the implementation of the State Government's COVID-19 WA Recovery Plan.

Extra assistance has been made available for seniors and people with disability. Below you will find useful links to help you find out more.

Seniors

  • The Department of Communities provides information on the support and assistance available to seniors as part of the State Government's COVID-19 response. 
  • The WA Council of the Ageing has produced an At Home Guide to support older Western Australians to live well which is particularly relevant during COVID-19. They can be contacted on 9472 0104.
  • The Community Aids and Equipment Program (CAEP) has been introduced to provide assistance for the purchase of essential equipment and home modifications to support Western Australians with disability or a medical condition.
  • The Elder Abuse Helpline on 1300 724 679 has been expanded to include longer operating hours and a wider range of services.
  • If you need some help around the house or think it’s time to look into aged care homes, visit the My Aged Care website.
  • The City's Safety for Seniors connects with vulnerable community members over the age of 65 through regular phone calls. If you would like to join the Safety for Seniors Program, please contact us on customer@rockingham.wa.gov.au or call 9528 0333.
  • The City is offering free Older Person Mental Health First Aid training that will teach community members practical skills to support an older person with a mental health problem. It will be held on Tuesday 6 and Wednesday 7 October 2020 from 9am - 4.30pm on both days at the Quest Rockingham. Places are limited and bookings are essential. Participants need to be available for both training days. Morning and afternoon tea will be provided, but BYO lunch. To book, contact the City on 9528 0333 or email customer@rockingham.wa.gov.au.

People with disability

  • Visit the Department of Social Services for information about support and assistance available for people with disability during COVID-19.
  • The NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) has a range of information to assist people to stay up to date.
  • The Community Aids and Equipment Program (CAEP) has been introduced to provide assistance for the purchase of essential equipment and home modifications to support Western Australians with disability or a medical condition.
  • Jobs in WA Disability Services is a job-matching website that aims to reduce the time and effort it takes to apply for jobs and to recruit staff by connecting skilled job seekers with employers looking for skilled workers.

City of Rockingham Low Income Subsidy Scheme

The City offers subsidies to adults and seniors on low-income to assist them to feel safer, more secure and connected. Three subsidy types are currently available under our Low Income Subsidy Scheme, with up to $150 available under each subsidy type:

  • Safety: To assist adults to make their homes safer and more secure.
  • Home Modification or Assistive Equipment: To assist seniors to manage their everyday tasks and remain in their own home longer.
  • Information Technology: To assist seniors to become more connected to friends, family, resources and information.
