Rockingham Strategic Centre Project Update

Date01 September 2022

After a decade of higher than average annual population growth the City of Rockingham has reviewed the local planning framework for the Rockingham Strategic Centre to shape future growth and development.

The Rockingham Strategic Centre covers the area from Rockingham Train Station down to the Rockingham Foreshore.

Rockingham is one of 10 Strategic Centres throughout the Perth and Peel region tasked with providing a diversity of uses and a range of essential economic and community services.

The review looked at challenges and opportunities for new development, infill development and redevelopment, and improvements to the current planning framework.
Community and local businesses took part in engagement workshops which informed the draft local planning framework which was supported by Council in June 2022.

The draft is now with the State Government for review and consent to formally advertise.

Mayor Deb Hamblin said the City would advertise the draft on the Share Your Thoughts section of the City’s website.

“We are reviewing the planning documents that guide the development of our City Centre, and the community has an important part to play in this process,” Mayor Hamblin said.

Considerable effort has gone into ensuring our local planning framework best reflects the direction our City is headed.

"Community feedback will be integral to the next steps that are carried out in this project. I encourage community members to stay informed about the latest updates by signing up to Rock Port or visiting Rockingham Strategic Centre.”
