Entries Now Open for City of Rockingham Art Prize

Date21 November 2022

Entries are now open for the newly revitalised City of Rockingham Art Prize with a new name and an increased prize pool of over $20,000.

After a one-year hiatus due to the refurbishment of the Rockingham Arts Centre, the popular awards will return again in 2023.

The City of Rockingham Art Prize will be distinguished by several firsts. First Prize has been increased to $10,000 cash and is non-acquisitive; providing the winning artist with the opportunity to sell their work at the exhibition.

The Small Sculpture Award has also been increased to a prize of $4,000, while the redefined Emerging Artist Award returns as well as the Aboriginal Artist Award. Both of these prizes will consist of $2,000 cash plus an Artsource MAX membership of one year.

The much-loved Local Resident Award and People’s Choice Award return, as well as the expanded opportunity for all artworks to be purchased by the public.

Artists across WA are invited to submit their work and entry is free. Artworks for all categories can be in any media within the set terms and conditions, excluding installations and video.

City of Rockingham Mayor Deb Hamblin encouraged both emerging and established artists to enter the competition.

“The City’s Art Prize plays an important role in highlighting the range of artistic talent in the community and beyond, with finalists’ work to be presented in a curated exhibition at the Rockingham Arts Centre in May 2023,” Mayor Hamblin said.

Newly appointed Art Prize Curator Sandra Murray urged WA artists to enter.

As the prize is solely for WA-based artists, and substantially increased in value, it is an exceptional opportunity to showcase their art. We offer a viable platform for artists to see their own artworks in a curated, expertly-presented exhibition.

Entries for the 2023 City of Rockingham Art Prize close midnight, Sunday 26 February 2023. The exhibition will run from 5 - 21 May 2023.
