False Alarm at Aqua Jetty

Date26 May 2022

Despite news reports about an ‘unfolding situation’ related to a potential chemical leak at Aqua Jetty this afternoon, Thursday 26 May, the City confirms that it was a false alarm caused by an error in a sensor in the control room.

The faulty sensor triggered an alarm which led to an evacuation of the facility and a response from DFES. No leak of chlorine gas was detected and DFES left the site at approximately 4.30pm.

The Health Club was reopened for patrons by approximately 4.45 pm and Group Fitness classes are operating as usual.  The pools remain closed as the disinfection system cannot be operated while the faulty sensor is being repaired. The pools are expected to reopen on Friday 27 May.

At no point was there any chemical leak, nor any risk to members of the public, patrons or staff.

Whilst all appropriate procedures were followed, we apologise for any inconvenience to the public.
