Multicultural Festival and Performance in the Park Cancelled

Date04 March 2022

Due to the impacts of the State Government’s Level 2 Public Health and Social Measures, the City of Rockingham has unfortunately had to cancel its up and coming Multicultural Festival and Performance in the Park (Cinderella) events.

Both events were scheduled to take place at the Village Green in Rockingham on Friday 18 March and Saturday 26 March respectively. However, the 500 patron capacity limit under Level 2 Measures means it is no longer achievable for the City to deliver both events.

While the Multicultural Festival and Performance in the Park will no longer take place, the City can advise that its Mooriboordup Koober Birats (Community Fun Day) originally scheduled for Sunday 20 March at the Rockingham Foreshore will still go ahead.

Mooriboordup Koober Birats will instead be a fenced, ticketed event at the Village Green, with attendance capped at 500 and the two square metre rule per person observed – and will still occur on 20 March.

Mayor Deb Hamblin said the City understood the State’s decision to implement Level 2 Measures, but was disappointed it was no longer able to host two of its most popular Summer Series events.

“The City understands a large number of community members would have been eagerly anticipating the Multicultural Festival and Performance in the Park (Cinderella),” Mayor Hamblin said.

“Unfortunately, the impact of the State’s Level 2 Measures amid the continued increase of COVID-19 in the community means the City is no longer able to host these events.

The safety of community members is paramount and we thank them for their understanding during this uncertain COVID-19 period.
