Spotlight on Carers Exhibition
Date09 October 2020
The City of Rockingham is encouraging the community to celebrate carers and the work that they do by visiting the Spotlight on Carers Exhibition, which is set to be held at the Rockingham Central Library from Saturday 10 to Monday 19 October 2020.
The free Spotlight on Carers Exhibition is scheduled to occur during National Carers Week (13 – 19 October 2020). National Carers Week is an annual event that provides an opportunity to educate and raise awareness among all Australians about the diversity of carers and the important role they play.
A carer is someone who provides unpaid personal care, support and assistance to family members and/or friends with disability, mental illness, a chronic condition, terminal illness, alcohol or other drug issues, or who are frail aged.
The Spotlight on Carers Exhibition will showcase the photographs submitted by community members for the Spotlight on Carers Photography competition.
City of Rockingham Mayor Barry Sammels said the exhibition would shine a light on the wonderful work carers do every day for their family members and friends.
“Carers make a significant difference in the lives of the people they care for, and also make an invaluable social and economic contribution through the support they provide,” Mayor Sammels said.
More than 230,000 Western Australians provide either substantial or full time care to family members and friends in WA. The Spotlight on Carers Exhibition is a chance for all of us to show carers just how much we appreciate their efforts, so we encourage the community to visit the exhibition during National Carers Week 2020.
The exhibition will be open on Monday – Friday from 9am to 5pm, and on Saturday from 9am – 12pm.
Visitors can vote in the People’s Choice Award category for the chance to win a $100 cash prize. The winner of the 2020 Spotlight on Carers Photography Exhibition will also be announced during National Carers Week 2020.
