Entrants in this year’s competition will have the chance to win from a pool of $10,000 worth of cash and prizes including studio recording opportunities, photoshoots and gift vouchers.
For the first time, this year’s competition will be hosted online. All heats and the Breakthrough final will be filmed and recorded at the Take Eight Productions studio in Rockingham, before being broadcasted on YouTube the following day.
City of Rockingham Mayor Barry Sammels said the Breakthrough Music Competition gave young aspiring musicians the opportunity to fast-track their progress in the music industry.
“Since 2012, Breakthrough has given a number of musicians the ability to take their first steps in the professional music industry,” Mayor Sammels said.
Talented artists from a variety of musical backgrounds have taken the chance to turn their passion into greater success and the City of Rockingham is encouraging local young people who are keen to forge a career in the musical industry to get involved in the competition.
Judges for the competition include Nikki Dagostino, Jordan Anthony and City of Rockingham Deputy Mayor Deb Hamblin. Katy Steele, who shot to fame through Perth based band Little Birdy, will also be a guest judge for the Breakthrough Finals.
The City also gratefully acknowledges Breakthrough sponsors Act-Belong-Commit, Take Eight Productions, Guitar World WA, The Life Spring Float Cabin Centre Rockingham, Stockland, Vicinity Rockingham Centre and Battery World Rockingham.
