City Welcomes NBN Business Fibre Initiative
Date20 November 2020
The City of Rockingham has welcomed NBN Co’s announcement that businesses in selected areas across the community will be able to benefit from faster internet speeds as part of the NBN Business Fibre Initiative.
Part of the City was selected as one of 240 new Business Fibre Zones across Australia to be included in the initiative. It will involve capability upgrades so that businesses in this area can access Enterprise Ethernet, which is capable of offering speeds close to 1Gbps (giga-bit per second).
Businesses in suburbs including Rockingham, East Rockingham, Hillman, Cooloongup, Shoalwater, Safety Bay and Peron will be included in the new Business Fibre Zone.
City of Rockingham Mayor Barry Sammels said improved connectivity would help the local business community grow in an increasingly digitalised world.
“Businesses are using the internet more than ever before and it is crucial that the right infrastructure is in place so that they can continue to grow,” Mayor Sammels said.
Whether it’s remote file storage, large file distribution, setting up cloud based business operations, or connecting employees across multiple offices online, having access to fast and reliable internet is vital.
“This announcement means a significant number of businesses across the community will soon be able to access a top quality fibre product.
“The City welcomes this move and looks forward to further technologies being rolled out across other areas of the community in future.”
