Proposed Additions/Alterations to Existing Place of Worship - Rockingham

Proposal

The City has received an application seeking approval for additions and alterations to an existing place of worship located at 4-6 Attwood Way, Rockingham.

The development application proposes a new prayer hall, which will include the following elements:

  • Demolition of the existing prayer hall and entrance and construction of a 6 m tall building addition (of approx 304.28 m2) comprising of:
    • A new prayer hall (approx 271.09 m2) and entryway
    • Dome over the entry and architectural minaret to additions, and
    • Female ablution area improvements to existing building on site.
  • 19 on site car parking bays proposed, including a new disabled parking bay
  • Existing operational hours of the Mosque are 5am-10pm daily, and
  • The proposed extensions are necessary to accommodate the current number of worshippers in attendance for Friday Prayers (held between 12.30pm-1.45pm), being 160 persons.  The proposed extensions would allow for a future capacity of up to 350 persons on site.
