Project summary

The project included the redevelopment of the City Square and Civic Plaza to improve the appearance, functionality and pedestrian safety of the two areas.

Civic SquareThe City Square and Civic Plaza is defined as the area located between the law courts, Centrelink, Rockingham Medical Centre and the City of Rockingham Administration Building.

Over time, these spaces have required increasing levels of maintenance and no longer provide the level of usability and activation they once did.

The refurbishment of the areas was to address the long term maintenance requirements, associated with the deteriorating paving, while improving the universal access, furniture and lighting.

This has been achieved by providing a consistent paving grade to the City Square, a variety of new seating options, new flowering trees, raised garden beds, and new lighting.

The improvements have been designed to complement the surrounding area and create a vibrant impression to increase activation of the spaces for residents, visitors, nearby businesses and government agencies operating in the area.
