Overview

Also known as Palermo Cove Reserve, the Harbour Playground is an award-winning park located on the Secret Harbour Foreshore and adjacent to the Secret Harbour Surf Life Saving Club. This park takes inspiration from the nearby beach with its unique underwater theme.

Families will enjoy exploring the playground, which encourages imaginative play and provides a range of different challenges. Each area has been designed to maximise access and inclusion for people of all ages and abilities.

The centrepiece of the playground is the underwater cave with a giant octopus. All areas of the cave are accessible and offer a range of play pieces including seaweed ropes, slides and a giant whirlpool net.

The parent and baby area is a safe space for the youngest family members, with shade, seating and softfall play pieces to support those who are learning to walk or crawl.

The junior area includes a sand and water play table which is wheelchair accessible.

The adventure play area has a cruise line swing, a range of slides for those who like different levels of adventure, and a wheelchair accessible round-a-bout.

As you explore the playground, keep an eye out for the interpretive signage to learn more about the ocean creatures hidden throughout the park. The signage is also written in braille. Access to all the play pieces is made easier with the use of softfall throughout.

There is a 1.2m high fence around the entire playground. A range of seating options are provided around the park to enjoy a quiet moment before getting back to exploring.

There are two barbecues undercover, including one which is wheelchair accessible. Public toilets are located on the outside of the Secret Harbour Surf Life Saving Club, which is a short distance from the playground.

This project received funding from the Australian Government, Lotterywest, and the Rotary Club of Rockingham.
