About PhotoVoice

The City of Rockingham is excited to be holding the 2021 Act Belong Commit PhotoVoice Competition.

PhotoVoice involves participants taking photo/s showcasing how they Act Belong Commit in their lives, and then including a sentence or short paragraph (25 words maximum) explaining the photo to give it a "voice". Community members were invited to submit up to three photos into the competition under their age group. There are 10 prize categories awarded including cash prizes.  

An exhibition of the 100 finalist images was held from Friday 1 October to Tuesday 12 October at the Gary Holland Community Centre, 19 Kent Street, Rockingham for the community to enjoy and vote for their favourite photo.

Categories and prizes

Categories

The 2021 Act Belong Commit PhotoVoice Competition included the following categories. 

There were two photographic styles that participants could enter photos under:

Non-modified

Photos with simple modification only (the equivalent to what you could do on a machine at a photo shop, or can be done within the program of Google Photos (for Windows computers) or iPhoto (for Apple Mac Computers) - i.e. no layers, only cropping, straightening, brightening, black and white, sepia etc.

Modified

Photos can be extensively modified using computer software - i.e. Adobe Photoshop Elements.

Age categories

Under each style (non-modified and modified) there were four age categories:

  1. 12 years and under
  2. 13 -17 years
  3. 18 - 59 years (adult)
  4. 60 years and over (seniors)

Additional category: Community

The 2021 Act Belong Commit PhotoVoice Competition introduced a new category called 'community'. This category was open to community groups, local services, sporting clubs, hobby groups etc. to submit a photo showcasing how their 'community' embraces the Act Belong Commit message. The first prize in the community category won a $500 donation to their club/group, the second prize was a $250 donation. Please see the Terms and Conditions for more information.

Please be aware individuals can enter up to three entries into the competition under their age category and also enter the community category on behalf of their local group/club however it must be a different photo.

2021 Winners 

The Act Belong Commit PhotoVoice Awards Presentation was held on Wednesday 6 October at the Gary Holland Community Centre. The winners for each category were announced; a total of 19 prizes were awarded on the evening with the winning images featured below.
