The Committee System

Much of the City's business is handled by two standing committees which meet monthly. The committees comprise five Councillors who review reports presented by City officers on a wide variety of topics.

Committee recommendations are placed before the monthly meetings of full Council for decisions. Council may accept committee recommendations, amend them, or send them back to the appropriate committee for further consideration.

Correspondence from individuals or organisations which cannot be handled through the routine processes and policies of the City is referred to the appropriate committee through an officer's report.
