Payment Options

The City understands that everyone has different circumstances and therefore offers several ways to pay your rates. You can choose whichever option best suits you; the options and the corresponding amounts due are outlined on your rate notice.

There are three standard options:

  • Option 1: One annual instalment due on 25 August 2017.
  • Option 2: Two instalments due on 25 August 2017 and 2 January 2018.
  • Option 3: Four instalments due on 25 August 2017, 25 October 2017, 2 January 2018 and 2 March 2018.

Ratepayers choosing option 1 will go into the draw for the City’s annual Rates Incentive Scheme which includes prizes to reward ratepayers for paying their rates in full on time

Important note: Options 2 to 3 incur an additional administration fee, and interest of 5.5% is calculated within the cost of the options as stated on your rate notice. This amount is included in your total.

Rates Smoothing

The City introduced Rates Smoothing last financial year to help households spread the cost of their rates throughout the year. Rates Smoothing allows you to make regular weekly, fortnightly or monthly payments towards your rates, ensuring the total is paid before the end of the financial year.

There are three Rates Smoothing payment arrangements you can choose from:

  • Weekly - 41 equal payments starting on 25 August 2017 and ending on 1 June 2018
  • Fortnightly - 21 equal payments starting on 25 August 2017 and ending on 1 June 2018
  • Monthly - 10 equal payments starting on 25 August 2017 and ending on 25 May 2018

Full details of the amount due for each option are included on your rate notice.

The Rates Smoothing Information Brochure includes the terms and conditions of Rates Smoothing and an application form. Please complete the application form, sign the agreement and return it to the City no later than 21 August 2017.
