Payment Options

The City understands that everyone has different circumstances and therefore offers several ways to pay your rates. You can choose whichever option best suits you; the options and the corresponding amounts due are outlined on your rates notice.

There are three standard options:

  • Option 1: One annual instalment generally due in September.
  • Option 2: Two instalments generally due in September and January.
  • Option 3: Four instalments generally due in September, November, January and March.

Ratepayers choosing option 1 will go into the draw for the City’s annual Rates Incentive Scheme which includes prizes to reward ratepayers for paying their rates in full on time

Important note: Options 2 to 3 incur an additional administration fee, and interest of 5.5% is calculated within the cost of the options as stated on your rates notice. This amount is included in your total.

For direct debit arrangement, please see the forms below.

Rates Smoothing

The City has introduced Rates Smoothing to help households spread the cost of their rates throughout the year. Rates Smoothing allows you to make regular weekly, fortnightly or monthly payments towards your rates, ensuring the total is paid before the end of the financial year.

There are three Rates Smoothing payment arrangements you can choose from:

  • Weekly - 41 equal payments
  • Fortnightly - 21 equal payments
  • Monthly - 10 equal payments.

Full details of the amount due for each option are included on your rates notice.

The Rates Smoothing Information Brochure will be included with your rates notice and outline the terms and conditions of Rates Smoothing and an application form. Please complete the application form, sign the agreement and return it to the City by the due date.
