Health and Wellbeing Plan

The Rockingham Community Health and Wellbeing Plan highlights the City's vision for improving the health and wellbeing of the community. Consultation for the draft 2017-2021 plan is currently underway.

The plan, believed to be the first of its kind for any Western Australian local government, communicates the strategies to be implemented within the community through partnerships with service providers, other government agencies and local organisations.

The plan is based on the Social Model of Health, which acknowledges the wide range of social, environmental, cultural, economic and behavioural factors that impact on the community’s health and wellbeing.

Through extensive research of local community health needs and wider public health priorities, the City has identified five areas of significant importance in relation to health and wellbeing.

Priority areas

The five priority areas of the plan are:

  • Physical activity and lifestyle
  • Information delivery
  • Mental health
  • Primary health care
  • Participation in community life.

Consultation undertaken

The plan was based on extensive community consultation and research including:

  • The Rockingham Community Health and Wellbeing Needs Assessment 2005
  • The Rockingham Children and Youth Health Wellbeing Study 2005
  • The Rockingham Community “Speakout” 2004
  • The City is positive that, with the involvement and support of our community and key partners, we will effectively work together to encourage and build a healthier community.
