The City, together with four local IGA supermarkets, will award the first 60 hosts to register a picnic or barbeque pack worth $50.
City of Rockingham Mayor, Barry Sammels, said the concept of Neighbour Day helps remove barriers: “The City supports stronger communities, and the best way to strengthen relationships is through face to face connections.
“Modern life is busy and by nature can be physically isolating. Neighbour Day presents an opportunity for local neighbours to meet face to face, and familiarising ourselves with other local residents helps to create a local network on your street and builds a picture of who and what is normal for your street.”
“We really appreciate the support of Cooloongup, Shoalwater, Port Kennedy Supa IGAs and Waikiki IGA supermarkets, which are putting together the food packs to support the Neighbour Day 2016 project.”
Neighbour Day is Australia’s annual celebration of community, bringing together the people next door, across the street or surrounding your local park to gather for a BBQ or a ‘cuppa’. In 2016 Neighbour Day falls on Sunday 27 March 2015 (Easter Sunday) which is why the City is extending the invitation to residents to host an activity between March and April.
