Mayor Barry Sammels said the event was one of the City’s busiest and parking would be limited.
“The City’s Rangers will be targeting hotspots along the foreshore and other popular parking zones throughout the day to ensure the safety of event patrons and to minimise traffic congestion,” Mayor Sammels said. “I encourage people driving to the event to plan their parking before they get here to ensure they get the most out of the celebrations.”
The annual Australia Day Celebration will begin at 5pm and include live entertainment from local performers and free kids’ activities including sand card art, giant games, face painting, amusements, rides and a fireworks display at 8pm.
Parking will be limited along the foreshore with the Gary Holland Community Centre the best option for parking. Extra parking will be available from 4pm at the Village Green, Rockingham, with access via the car park behind Dome.
Motorists are reminded to pay attention to the signage in parking areas and to display any permits correctly at all times to avoid receiving a fine. Vehicles parked on the road must not be parked against the flow of traffic or obstructing pedestrian access ways and footpaths.
Consideration will be given to special circumstances including medical emergencies should they occur.
City Rangers and Rockingham SmartWatch will be conducting high visibility vehicle and foot patrols of all hotspot areas, and are working in partnership with local police and other government agencies. Any anti-social behaviour or criminal activity should be reported to police on 131 444.
Patrons are also encouraged to consider public transport. The free 555 Transperth bus service departs from the Rockingham Train Station for the foreshore every 15 minutes. (Please note, the last bus departs the foreshore at 8.21pm so if you are planning to stay for the fireworks this may not be the best option.)
Parked vehicles must not obstruct pedestrian access ways and footpaths (left), and vehicles parked on the road must not be parked against the flow of traffic (right).
