Men's Health Week Event

31/05/2017

Rockingham men are being encouraged to drop in for a pit stop to get their health back on track as part of the City of Rockingham’s Men’s Health Week program.

The City is holding a free Men’s Pit Stop on Tuesday 13 June where men can come along for a simple health check and find out what services and activities are available for them in their local area. There will also be some great giveaways.

“We men have our cars services regularly, and we need to start doing the same for our bodies,” Mayor Barry Sammels said. “Statistics show that more men die at every stage throughout the life course, more men have accidents, more, men take their own lives and more men suffer from lifestyle-related health conditions than females at the same age. Meanwhile, men visit the doctor less, and the perception is that we don’t care about health or that health services are not well-prepared to interact with us effectively.”

The Men’s Pit Stop will be held from 5pm to 8pm at the Rockingham Rugby Union Football Club at the Lark Hill Sport Complex, Warnbro Avenue, Port Kennedy. Bookings are not required; simply drop in.

Men’s Health Week runs from 12 to 18 June and this year’s theme is Healthy Body, Healthy Mind: Keeping the Balance which aims to encourage men to take time out to pursue activities they enjoy.

“We want to help spread the message to local men that being healthy is more than exercising and eating well. It's also about making the time to pursue the activities you enjoy, whether that's connecting with mates, going to the park with the dog, or playing and watching sport,” Mayor Sammels said.
