Mayor Re-elected to Chair Coastal Councils Association

17/09/2015

Speaking from the Sydney Annual General Meeting this morning, City of Rockingham Mayor, Barry Sammels announced that he was re-elected to Chair the Australian Coastal Councils Association Executive Board:

“I am honoured to be re-elected as Chair of the Coastal Council’s Association.

“As Mayor of a City that is vulnerable to climate change and coastal impacts it is fundamentally important that Local Governments around Australia collaborate on the major issues impacting coastal municipalities.

“I look forward to working with the Executive again for the next two years and the City of Rockingham is delighted to have been successful in its request to host the annual Coastal Conference in May next year. The conference will attract up to 200 visitors to Rockingham.”

Mayor Sammels is one of two Western Australian representatives on the Board of twelve Executives and has been a member of the Board of the Seachange Taskforce and now the Coastal Council’s Association since its inception in 2004.

Today’s AGM covered topics such as population growth, tourism and infrastructure and climate change as well as the impacts of increased shark attacks and the need for greater protective measures in at risk waters.
