The competition aims to create a sense of good will and community pride during the festive season. Entrants are invited to submit up to three poems of no longer than 24 lines on the theme of Christmas.
Entry is free. The winning entry will be displayed on posters throughout the Rockingham area during the festive period. The winning poet will receive two copies of the poster as well as a first prize of $200.
City of Rockingham Mayor Barry Sammels said this was the second year the City has offered a Christmas Poetry Competition after a great response last year.
“We had 70 entries last year, with Ashleigh Mounser’s poem Carol taking out top honours,” Mayor Sammels said.
“I look forward to seeing many more entries this year and I encourage anyone with a creative writing flair to participate.”
Entry guidelines are available on the City’s writing and literature page.
