Winter Short Film Festival 2011
Date Published: 13/06/2011
There is nothing quite like settling in for some cinema on a cold night, and for the first time this year, the City of Rockingham together with In the Bin is offering the community a unique winter film event to entertain, inform and delight audiences with 14 international and local short film creations.
Be sure to secure your seat and get along to the Gary Holland Centre on Friday 25 June for 6.30pm to view a selection of short films created by groups from Challenger Court, Malibu School and South Metropolitan Youth Link Community College.
In The Bin Education Program and Short Film Festival, is Australia’s largest touring cultural event and visits about 50 communities each year. Started in 1999, the program teaches groups and students film-making skills through a series of three-day film-making workshops, held over two weeks.
City of Rockingham Mayor, Barry Sammels commended the project: “In The Bin’s film making workshops provide a unique opportunity for Rockingham residents to receive training and gain new skills in how films are made.”
Festival Director and CEO Jed Cahill is excited to revisit Western Australia” In the Bin is really pleased to be here again in 2011 after the enthusiastic welcome we received from WA communities during last year’s tour.
“We have a number of workshops taking place in Western Australia during June and July including Mt Barker, Carnarvon, Katanning and Lake Grace.
“The film workshops are focused on the development and inspiration of people without discrimination in the art of film making and the In The Bin team is delighted to have the opportunity to bring a fresh and innovative program to the people of Rockingham.”
The film workshops are spread over three days with day 1 focused on educating the students in the practical elements of film making as well as giving them a taste of some professional Australian and International short films. The second day is used for the filming of the students’ very own short film and the third day is for editing the material to create a high quality, professional looking film.
In The Bin’s workshops are great opportunities for people young and old that are interested in dabbling with film-making in a fun, professional and rewarding environment.
