Walk Safely to School Day 2011

Friday 20 May 2011 is National Walk Safely to School Day. Children throughout Australia are being asked to walk to school today with their parents or carers, while learning about being be safe, active and healthy.

Once again, the City of Rockingham encouraged primary schools in the City to participate in this event by offering funding assistance to host a healthy breakfast as part of Walk Safely to School Day.

City of Rockingham Mayor, Barry Sammels said: “National Walk Safely to School Day aims to promote better health and cleaner air. This event teaches children about the importance of keeping physically active, having a healthy diet, staying safe and caring for the environment.

“The City sees this as a great opportunity to improve our connection with the schools and helping to create a healthier community,”

Eleven primary schools have registered to receive their donation for a healthy breakfast from the City as part of Walk Safely to School Day:
• Baldivis Primary School
• Comet Bay Primary School
• Living Waters Lutheran College
• Malibu School
• Rockingham Beach Primary School
• Secret Harbour Primary School
• Settlers Primary School
• Singleton Primary School
• Star of the Sea Catholic Primary School
• St Bernadette’s Catholic Primary School
• Warnbro Primary School.
