State Passes Responsible Cat Ownership Laws
Date Published: 2/11/2011
Local Government Minister John Castrilli welcomed the passing of legislation which will help reduce the thousands of unwanted cats euthanised each year in Western Australia.
The new laws will provide for a comprehensive approach to the control and management of cats in WA, meaning pet cats will have to be sterilised (unless they are for breeding), microchipped and registered.
To ensure this Bill does not cause hardship, it will be phased in from 1 November 2012. Cat owners and local governments now have two years - until November 1, 2013, to prepare themselves and their cats.
